Taking It to the Next level – Agile SDLC Boot Camp Training Toronto & PMI – ACP

What’s Next for Our Agile SDLC Training?

To capitalize on the success of our Agile SDLC Boot Camp training and as part of our emphasis on program evaluation and continuous improvement, we have been considering next steps to take the course ” to the next level”.

Since we are in the business of  SDLC process improvement and our core beliefs relate to agile development methodologies, an obvious option is to have our course(s) accredited or supported by a reputable agile / scrum and or project management organization.

The PMI – ACP completion criteria includes formal training, demonstrated use of skills on the job over a long term (3500 hrs) and the successful completion of a detailed formal evaluation.

What Did We Learn About Our Options?

I was surprised when my research identified the Project Management Institute (PMI) option for the Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) .  The PMI-ACP certification has been available through PMI since May, 2011.

We could become a Registered Education Provider (REP) with PMI and upon completion of our Agile SDLC Boot Camp training, offer participants Professional Development Units (PDU) towards their ACP designation.

Whereas the common Certified Scrum Master (CSM) designation through Scrum Alliance includes completion of a 2 day course for certification, the PMI – ACP designation is a professional development learning path.   The PMI – ACP designation recognizes knowledge of agile principles, practices and tools and techniques across agile methodologies.   The PMI – ACP completion criteria includes formal training, demonstrated use of skills on the job over a long term (3500 hrs) and the successful completion of a  detailed formal evaluation. This end-end, comprehensive professional development path offers more credibility than existing entry-level, training or exam-only based offerings. For these reason, we have chosen to take our course to the next level with PMI.

Where Are in the Process?

We have started the PMI – REP application process and expect to be offering PDU’s for the completion of our Agile SDLC Boot Camp training very soon.  I will keep you posted on our progress!
